Chanakya Oath of Revenge

Chanakya Niti

Dadi: "Guddu, do you know what a vow is?"

Guddu: "Like a promise, Dadi?"

Dadi: "Stronger than a promise, beta. A vow is something you stake your entire life on. Tonight, let me tell you about a man who made the most famous vow in Indian history."

Guddu: "Who was he?"

Dadi: "His name was Chanakya. He was a brilliant scholar from Takshashila university - perhaps the smartest man of his time. But he was poor and not very good-looking."

Guddu: "That doesn't sound like a hero, Dadi."

Dadi: "Heroes come in all shapes, beta. Chanakya went to the court of King Dhanananda to offer his wisdom. But the king took one look at his shabby clothes and plain face and started laughing."

Guddu: "That's so mean!"

Dadi: "It gets worse. The king ordered his guards to throw Chanakya out. They dragged him by his hair - his shikha, the sacred tuft that Brahmins wear. It was the ultimate insult."

Guddu: "What did Chanakya do?"

Dadi: "*voice drops low* He stood outside the palace, hair loose and wild, and made a vow that thundered across the kingdom. He said, "I will not tie my hair again until I have destroyed the entire Nanda dynasty!""

Guddu: "Just because they insulted him?"

Dadi: "It wasn't just about the insult, Guddu. Chanakya had seen how the Nanda kings treated the common people - cruelly, greedily. They had forgotten dharma. The insult was the spark, but the fire was already there."

Guddu: "How long did it take him?"

Dadi: "Many years. He found a young boy named Chandragupta and trained him. They failed many times. Once, they overheard a mother scolding her child for eating hot food from the center of the plate instead of the cooler edges."

Guddu: "What does that have to do with anything?"

Dadi: "Chanakya learned a lesson! Don't attack the capital directly - conquer the outer regions first, then close in. They changed their strategy and won!"

Guddu: "And the Nanda king?"

Dadi: "Defeated. Chandragupta became emperor. And finally, after all those years, Chanakya tied his hair again. His vow was complete."

Guddu: "That's... that's a really long time to stay angry, Dadi."

Dadi: "*thoughtfully* That's true, beta. Chanakya's story teaches us about determination, but also about the cost of anger. He achieved great things, but he spent his life in the fire of revenge. Perhaps there's a middle path - working hard for what's right, without letting anger consume you."

Guddu: "What happened to him after?"

Dadi: "He served as Chandragupta's advisor, wrote books on politics and wisdom, and helped build one of the greatest empires ever. But they say he never forgot that insult, even when he had everything."

Guddu: "I don't want to be that angry, Dadi."

Dadi: "Good, beta. Use your intelligence for good, like Chanakya. But let go of anger faster than he did. That's wisdom too."
