The Woman Who Fed Terrorists (Ahimsa)
— Inspired by real accounts from conflict zones —
Dadi: "Guddu, do you know what makes a team stronger than even the biggest enemy?"
Guddu: "Big muscles? Lots of weapons?"
Dadi: "Something much more powerful - staying united. Let me tell you about the wise quail."
Guddu: "A quail is like a small bird, right?"
Dadi: "Yes, beta. Long ago, Buddha was born as a wise quail - the leader of a whole flock. One day, a hunter came to their forest with a net. He would make sounds exactly like quails, tricking them into coming close."
Guddu: "That's cheating!"
Dadi: "It was very clever and very dangerous. Many quails were getting caught. So the wise leader called everyone together."
Guddu: "What was his plan?"
Dadi: ""When the hunter throws his net over you," he said, "each of you must put your head through one of the little holes. Then, all together, fly up at the same moment! Carry the net to a thorn bush, drop it there, and escape underneath.""
Guddu: "All of them together? That's smart!"
Dadi: "It worked perfectly! The quails would lift the net as one team and fly away. The hunter's wife was angry - he wasn't bringing home any money. But the hunter said, "Wait. The moment they start fighting among themselves, I'll catch them all.""
Guddu: "Why would they fight?"
Dadi: "One day, a quail accidentally stepped on another's head while landing. "Who stepped on my head?" cried the second quail angrily."
Guddu: "It was an accident though!"
Dadi: "The first quail said exactly that - "I didn't mean to! Don't be angry." But the second quail kept saying mean things. Soon, all the quails took sides. Half supported one, half supported the other."
Guddu: "Oh no... they broke their unity."
Dadi: "Exactly. When the hunter came that day and threw his net, one side said, "You lift it!" The other side said, "No, YOU lift it!" While they argued, the hunter caught them all and sold them in town."
Guddu: "All of them? Even the wise leader?"
Dadi: "The wise leader had seen this coming. He had moved to another part of the forest with the quails who chose to follow him. Looking at what happened, he said sadly, "If they had lived in peace, they would be free. But they chose to quarrel.""
Guddu: "It's like when our cricket team lost because Rahul and Amit were fighting about who should bowl..."
Dadi: "Perfect example! The other team wasn't stronger. Your team just forgot to work together. Unity is like a rope, Guddu. One thread is weak. But hundreds of threads twisted together can lift elephants!"
Guddu: "So even small fights can break the whole team?"
Dadi: "Yes, beta. And enemies - whether hunters or opponents - they wait for exactly this. They know that a united team is unbeatable. But a fighting team defeats itself."
Guddu: "I'm going to say sorry to Vikram tomorrow. We've been silly about who gets the window seat."
Dadi: "That's wisdom speaking, my boy. Small things should never break big friendships. Now fly to bed, my little quail!"
