Vali and Sugriva Brotherhood
— Valmiki Ramayana, Kishkindha Kanda —
Dadi: "Guddu, have you been to Vaishno Devi temple?"
Guddu: "Yes, Dadi! We climbed all those steps!"
Dadi: "Do you know why there's another temple of Bhairon Nath that people visit after the main temple?"
Guddu: "No, why?"
Dadi: "Let me tell you the story. Long ago, when the divine forces were fighting demons, the three great goddesses - Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi, and Maha Saraswati - combined their powers."
Guddu: "Three goddesses together?"
Dadi: "A blinding white light emerged, and from it, a little girl was born. She was named Vaishnavi and grew up to be a great devotee of Lord Vishnu."
Guddu: "Is that Vaishno Devi?"
Dadi: "Yes! Her fame spread everywhere. A tantric named Gorakh Nath heard about her and sent his disciple Bhairon Nath to investigate."
Guddu: "Was Bhairon Nath bad?"
Dadi: "He was powerful and arrogant. When he saw Vaishnavi, he was captivated by her beauty and began pestering her to marry him."
Guddu: "That's wrong!"
Dadi: "Very wrong. Vaishnavi fled into the mountains to continue her meditation in peace. But Bhairon Nath followed her relentlessly."
Guddu: "Did she hide somewhere?"
Dadi: "She stopped at many places - at Banganga, she shot an arrow into the ground to create water. At Charan Paduka, her footprints were impressed into rock. At Ardhkuwari, she meditated in a cave for nine months while Bhairon searched for her."
Guddu: "Nine months in a cave!"
Dadi: "When he finally found her, she blasted through the cave's end with her trident and fled to the holy cave at Darbar. But Bhairon caught up."
Guddu: "What happened?"
Dadi: "A battle raged for nine days. Finally, the Goddess transformed into Maha Kali and beheaded Bhairon. His head flew and landed on a distant hilltop."
Guddu: "Did he die?"
Dadi: "In his dying moments, Bhairon realized who she truly was - not just a beautiful woman, but the Divine Mother herself. He begged for forgiveness."
Guddu: "Did she forgive him?"
Dadi: "This is the beautiful part. Yes! She forgave him completely. She understood that deep down, even Bhairon was seeking liberation - just in the wrong way."
Guddu: "That's very kind."
Dadi: "She did more than forgive. She blessed him and said, "Anyone who visits my cave must also visit your temple to complete their pilgrimage." That's why the Bhairon Nath temple exists!"
Guddu: "So the enemy became part of the worship?"
Dadi: "Exactly. Then Mata Vaishnavi transformed herself into a rock with three heads - the Pindies - representing the three goddesses who created her. She remains in that form today, blessing all who visit."
Guddu: "That's why we see rock formations in the cave?"
Dadi: "Yes, beta. The three Pindies are the Sanctum Sanctorum - the holiest spot. Mata Vaishnavi chose to stay there forever, in meditation, blessing devotees."
Guddu: "What's the lesson?"
Dadi: "Many lessons! The Divine Mother protects those who seek refuge in her. Even those who oppose her can find redemption through grace. And forgiveness transforms enemies into devotees."
Guddu: "Bhairon Nath was forgiven even after chasing her?"
Dadi: "That's divine love, beta. It doesn't hold grudges. It sees the soul behind the actions. Remember that the next time someone wrongs you - maybe they too are just seeking something, in their confused way."
