Meeting Nityananda Prabhu
— Chaitanya Charitamrita, Adi Lila, Chapter 17 —
Dadi**: "Guddu, Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had a close friend named Nityananda Prabhu. Their meeting was miraculous!"
Guddu**: "Another meeting story?"
Dadi**: "This one is special! Nityananda was already a great saint when Chaitanya Mahaprabhu began his mission in Bengal. People called Nityananda 'Avadhuta' - one beyond all rules."
Guddu**: "What made him different?"
Dadi**: "He wandered everywhere, completely absorbed in divine love. He didn't care about caste, status, or social rules. He embraced everyone - high and low - as children of God."
Guddu**: "How did he meet Chaitanya?"
Dadi**: "Chaitanya had been searching for a special soul to help spread the chanting of God's names. One night, he dreamed of a great personality coming to him. The next day, Chaitanya asked his followers to find this person."
Guddu**: "Did they find him?"
Dadi**: "They searched everywhere but returned empty-handed. Then Chaitanya himself led them to the house of a brahmin named Nandana Acharya. And there sat Nityananda!"
Guddu**: "Hidden in someone's house!"
Dadi**: "When their eyes met, both saints recognized each other instantly. Chaitanya ran and embraced Nityananda. Both fell into a spiritual ecstasy so deep that everyone present felt divine love flooding the room."
Guddu**: "What happened then?"
Dadi**: "From that day, they worked together. Chaitanya was like the moon - gentle, philosophical, radiating love. Nityananda was like the sun - fierce, fearless, burning away sins."
Guddu**: "Two different styles?"
Dadi**: "They complemented each other perfectly! Nityananda would go into the most dangerous places - where drunkards and criminals lived - and distribute divine love. No one was too fallen for him."
Guddu**: "Wasn't that dangerous?"
Dadi**: "Very! Once, two notorious criminals named Jagai and Madhai attacked Nityananda with broken pots, injuring his head. Blood flowed, but Nityananda just smiled."
Guddu**: "He smiled while bleeding?!"
Dadi**: "He prayed for their salvation! When Chaitanya heard about this, he was furious and wanted to punish them. But Nityananda stopped him: 'Please, give them love, not punishment.'"
Guddu**: "After they hurt him?"
Dadi**: "That's the depth of a true saint. Jagai and Madhai were so moved by this kindness that they became transformed. They became devoted followers!"
Guddu**: "Their attackers became their devotees!"
Dadi**: "That's Nityananda's power. He could see the divine spark in the darkest soul. He went where 'respectable' saints feared to go. He loved those others considered hopeless."
Guddu**: "Like a doctor going to sick people instead of waiting in a hospital."
Dadi**: "Perfect analogy! Chaitanya Mahaprabhu once said that Nityananda had no equal in distributing divine mercy. Without Nityananda, the sankirtan movement - the communal chanting of God's names - couldn't have spread so far."
Guddu**: "They were a team."
Dadi**: "More than that - they were two aspects of divine love. Chaitanya showed us how to love God. Nityananda showed us how to love everyone AS God. Together, they changed Bengal forever."
Guddu**: "I like Nityananda. He didn't give up on anyone."
Dadi**: "And that, beta, is real compassion. Not just loving the lovable, but loving the ones the world has rejected. Sleep now, and may Nityananda's fearless love inspire you tomorrow."
