Bhagavata Purana, Book 8, Chapters 8-12; Mahabharata

Dadi**: "Guddu, do you remember the story of churning the ocean?"

Guddu**: "When the gods and demons worked together?"

Dadi**: "Yes! When the pot of Amrita - the nectar of immortality - finally emerged, something interesting happened. Tonight I'll tell you about Mohini and how she distributed it."

Guddu**: "Who got the nectar?"

Dadi**: "That was the problem! The demons grabbed it and started fighting among themselves. 'I should drink first!' 'No, I deserve it!' They were quarreling so much they couldn't agree on anything."

Guddu**: "Even immortality made them fight!"

Dadi**: "The gods were despondent - they had worked so hard, and now they'd lost the nectar. But Lord Vishnu reassured them: 'Don't worry. With the power of my maya, I shall create discord among them.'"

Guddu**: "What did he do?"

Dadi**: "He transformed into Mohini - the most enchanting female form imaginable. Dark complexion, graceful movements, adorned with jasmine garlands, a coy smile and dancing eyebrows..."

Guddu**: "The demons must have been amazed!"

Dadi**: "They forgot their quarrel completely! All the demons became captivated by Mohini's beauty. They requested her to distribute the nectar fairly."

Guddu**: "She agreed?"

Dadi**: "With clever reverse psychology! She said, 'You are all wise sons of Maharishi Kashyap. I am but a whimsical woman. How can you trust someone so fickle as me?'"

Guddu**: "That made them trust her more!"

Dadi**: "Exactly! They promised to accept whatever decision she gave. Now watch what she did. She arranged the gods and demons in two separate lines."

Guddu**: "Then what?"

Dadi**: "She approached the demons first, distracting them with gestures, sweet words, and playful mockery. While they were entranced, she moved to where the gods sat and gave them the nectar!"

Guddu**: "She tricked the demons!"

Dadi**: "The demons, having pledged to accept her decision and being emotionally attached to her, remained silent. They had been outmaneuvered by divine intelligence."

Guddu**: "Did all the gods get the nectar?"

Dadi**: "All except... one demon named Rahu was clever. He dressed like a god and sat between Surya, the sun god, and Chandra, the moon god."

Guddu**: "He sneaked in!"

Dadi**: "Mohini gave him nectar without realizing. But Surya and Chandra recognized the imposter and warned Vishnu. Instantly, Vishnu's discus, the Sudarshana Chakra, flew and cut off Rahu's head!"

Guddu**: "But he had already drunk the nectar!"

Dadi**: "Yes! So he couldn't die. His head and body became separate beings - Rahu and Ketu. And they hold a grudge against the sun and moon forever."

Guddu**: "Is that why there are eclipses?"

Dadi**: "According to mythology, yes! Rahu and Ketu periodically try to swallow the sun and moon in revenge. That's what eclipses are - the ancient enemies attacking each other."

Guddu**: "Wow, that's a fun explanation!"

Dadi**: "The deeper teaching is this: the demons and gods faced identical circumstances. But the gods succeeded through devotion to the Lord, while demons failed because they lacked that shelter."

Guddu**: "Same situation, different outcomes."

Dadi**: "Life is like that too, beta. It's not just what happens to us, but whether we're connected to divine guidance. Now sleep, and may the nectar of sweet dreams be yours!"
