Kushmanda - Creator of the Cosmic Egg
— Shakta Texts —
Dadi: "Guddu beta, do you know who created the entire universe?"
Guddu: "Brahma? He's called the creator god, right?"
Dadi: "He creates within the universe, beta. But who created the universe itself - the cosmic egg from which everything came? That was a goddess named Kushmanda."
Guddu: "Kushmanda? That's a funny name!"
Dadi: "It has a beautiful meaning! "Ku" means a little, "Ushma" means warmth or energy, and "Anda" means egg. Together: "She who created the cosmic egg with a little warmth.""
Guddu: "She used warmth to create everything?"
Dadi: "Not fire, not struggle, not effort - just the warmth of a smile, beta!"
Guddu: "A SMILE created the universe?"
Dadi: "According to the Puranas, before creation there was nothing but infinite darkness. No light, no form, no energy, no life. Complete emptiness."
Guddu: "That sounds scary..."
Dadi: "Into this darkness, Kushmanda manifested. And sitting in her divine glory, she simply... smiled."
Guddu: "Just smiled?"
Dadi: "And from that blissful smile emerged the energy that became everything! The cosmic egg formed - what we call Brahmanda. Stars, planets, galaxies, all living beings - they all unfolded from that single loving smile."
Guddu: "So creation wasn't violent or hard?"
Dadi: "That's the beautiful teaching, beta. The highest form of creation flows from joy, not struggle. From maternal love, not force. Kushmanda didn't labor to make the universe - it overflowed from her inner happiness."
Guddu: "What happened after she created everything?"
Dadi: "From her energy came the Tridevi - three great goddesses: Mahakali, Mahalakshmi, and Mahasaraswati. And from them came the male gods: Shiva, Vishnu, and Brahma. All the divine pairs emerged from her smile!"
Guddu: "So she's like... the grandmother of all gods?"
Dadi: "Even more than that! She's called Adi Shakti - the original power. The source of everything."
Guddu: "Where does she live now?"
Dadi: "This is fascinating, beta. After creating the universe, Kushmanda settled inside the Sun! She's called "Surya Mandala Antarvardhini" - the one who resides within the solar sphere."
Guddu: "She lives IN the sun?!"
Dadi: "The sun only shines because of her. She is the warmth that lets Lord Vishnu continue creation. Every ray of sunlight you feel? That's Kushmanda's energy reaching you."
Guddu: "So when I stand in sunshine, I'm touching the goddess?"
Dadi: "Beautifully put, beta! And during Navratri, she's worshipped on the fourth day. People meditate on their heart center - the Anahata Chakra - to connect with her."
Guddu: "Why the heart?"
Dadi: "Because creation came from her love, not her mind. The heart is where love lives. When you feel warmth for someone - that's Kushmanda energy in you."
Guddu: "What does she look like in pictures?"
Dadi: "She has eight arms, carrying divine weapons and symbols, riding a lion. Very powerful-looking! But remember - all that power came through a smile."
Guddu: "Dadi, I want to create with smiles, not struggles!"
Dadi: "Then remember Kushmanda, beta. When you're making art, helping others, even doing homework - let it come from joy, not frustration. The best creations are born from happy hearts."
Guddu: "A smile is more powerful than I thought!"
Dadi: "Powerful enough to create universes, beta. Now sleep, and may Kushmanda's warmth fill your dreams with light!"
