Hanuman Sanjeevani Mountain
— Valmiki Ramayana, Yuddha Kanda —
Dadi: "Guddu, what would you do if someone you loved was dying and the only medicine was on a mountain thousands of miles away - and you had only until sunrise?"
Guddu: "I'd feel hopeless. That's impossible!"
Dadi: "For most beings, yes. But not for Hanuman. This is the story of the Sanjeevani mountain."
Guddu: "I've heard this one! Lakshmana was hurt, right?"
Dadi: "Mortally wounded. Indrajit, Ravana's powerful son, struck him with the Shakti weapon. Lakshmana fell unconscious, poised to die precisely at sunrise. Rama was devastated."
Guddu: "Who knew what to do?"
Dadi: "The physician Sushena said only rare herbs from the Himalayas could save him. Four specific herbs on a blazing mountain - Mrita Sanjivani to restore the dead to life, Vishalyakarani to heal wounds, and others."
Guddu: "So Hanuman flew to get them!"
Dadi: "He grew to his gigantic form and launched himself toward the Himalayas. The mountain he stood on couldn't even bear his weight as he departed - it began to sink! Trees burst into flames from the speed of his takeoff."
Guddu: "Did Ravana try to stop him?"
Dadi: "He sent the demon Kalanemi to delay Hanuman with tricks. But Hanuman saw through the deception and killed him. Then Ravana tried something even more desperate."
Guddu: "What?"
Dadi: "He ordered Surya, the Sun God, to rise EARLY - before the appointed time. If dawn came too soon, Lakshmana would die before the medicine arrived!"
Guddu: "That's cheating!"
Dadi: "Hanuman's response was extraordinary. He grew many times his normal size and HELD the Sun God in place, preventing dawn from breaking!"
Guddu: "He stopped the sun?"
Dadi: "To give himself more time. Finally, he reached the mountain. But here was the problem - the Sanjeevani herb looked like many other plants. He couldn't identify which one was which!"
Guddu: "What did he do?"
Dadi: "*spreads hands wide* Rather than risk bringing the wrong herb, he lifted the ENTIRE mountain peak and flew back with it!"
Guddu: "The whole mountain! That's amazing!"
Dadi: "On his way back, flying over Ayodhya, something unexpected happened. Bharata - Rama's brother who was ruling in Rama's absence - saw what looked like a demon carrying a mountain through the sky."
Guddu: "He didn't know it was Hanuman?"
Dadi: "He shot an arrow that struck Hanuman, who fell to the ground. When Bharata learned the truth, he was filled with remorse. But Hanuman recovered quickly and continued his mission."
Guddu: "Did he make it in time?"
Dadi: "Just before sunrise! The physician quickly found the herbs. And here's the beautiful part - just the FRAGRANCE of the Sanjeevani was enough to revive Lakshmana."
Guddu: "He woke up just from the smell?"
Dadi: "Fully healed and ready to fight. The army rejoiced. And later, Lakshmana himself would kill Indrajit, avenging his near-death."
Guddu: "What happened to the mountain?"
Dadi: "After the war, Hanuman returned it to its place in the Himalayas. Nothing permanently lost - only borrowed for necessity."
Guddu: "Dadi, Hanuman stopped the sun, carried a mountain, got shot, and STILL delivered the medicine on time!"
Dadi: "That's what devotion looks like in action, beta. No obstacle is too big when someone you love needs you. Hanuman didn't say "it's too far" or "it's too hard." He just went."
Guddu: "I want to be like that for the people I love."
Dadi: "*kisses his forehead* You already are, in your own way. Every act of love, every sacrifice for family or friends - that's the same spirit. Now rest, my little mountain-lifter."
Guddu: "Goodnight, Dadi. Jai Hanuman!"
