In essence: Those who take refuge in this knowledge attain Krishna's own nature - unborn at creation, undisturbed at dissolution.
A conversation between a seeker and guide to help you feel this verse deeply
Sadhak-Guru Dialogue
Sadhak: "Not born at creation, not disturbed at dissolution - this sounds impossible. Surely everything comes into being and passes away?"
Guru: "Does the ocean come into being when a wave rises? Does it die when the wave subsides?"
Sadhak: "No, the ocean remains throughout. Only the wave appears and disappears."
Guru: "You have answered your own question. Creation and dissolution apply to the wave-like appearances within consciousness. Those who know themselves as the ocean - as consciousness itself - are untouched by the arising and subsiding of forms."
Sadhak: "But I experience birth and death. I see people die. How can I be unborn?"
Guru: "You see bodies appear and disappear. You see thoughts arise and pass. But have you ever experienced your own non-existence? The awareness witnessing these changes - when did it begin? Can you find its edge?"
Sadhak: "I... cannot remember not existing. But that might just be memory's limitation."
Guru: "Or it might be the direct evidence of what Krishna is pointing to. This knowledge doesn't give you immortality - it reveals the immortality that was always your nature. The gunas create the illusion of birth and death. Know them fully, and the illusion dissolves."

🌅 Daily Practice
Upon waking, before the mind fully engages with the day's concerns, rest for a moment in the awareness that was present in deep sleep. This awareness didn't 'wake up' - it was always awake. The body woke up, the mind stirred, but awareness remained unchanged. Touch this unchanging dimension before entering the day's activities.
When something ends today - a conversation, a task, a meeting - notice how awareness continues unbroken. The content changes but the knowing remains. This simple recognition is practice for remaining undisturbed at larger dissolutions. Let each ending become a mini-teaching on your unborn nature.
As you prepare for sleep, recognize that 'you' as this body-mind will soon dissolve into unconsciousness. Yet awareness will continue - otherwise you couldn't wake up. Rest in trust of this continuity. Let sleep become a practice ground for the greater dissolution, learning to release without fear into the unchanging ground of being.
